This is a long-standing attempt to baffle the uneducated public with anti-Bitcoin bullshit. Bitcoin mining and the blockchain use a lot of energy to be sure, but it actually pales in comparison to the energy used by other more traditional financial machines: banking, stock markets, etc.

The highest estimates for Bitcoins annual terawatt hours consumption is 28.67. This means, more than 3 times more efficient than a very conservative calculation of the cost of the global banking system.

That article is from 2018 and things have changed a little bit, because the current estimate is 111 Tw which makes it now exceed the global banking system.

You are right that information is a little outdated. The argument remains though. I edited my comment to include a couple of newer articles. Also note the asterisk next to the Bitcoin figure indicating there is no factual source for the 111 twH figure, it is merely an "estimate." Other estimates may vary.
