John's point about capitalism might very well be a factor here. However when looking at the list of the countries he is showing something else is very clear. Race and culture are decided factors. I'd argue that if he drilled down on that it would be a more important variable.

If there's a fair agreement then capitalism works. The problem is companies are sneaky snakes and want more than they're deserving of. And sure we have a choice of not doing business with them, some of the time.
