What's interesting about the whole "Acid Rain" thing is that was easily solved by cleaning the emissions of power plants. Burning coal is dirty, there's no way around it.
Yeah, plants had to install scrubbers and capture methods, but you don't shit in a bucket without expecting to take it somewhere when the bucket is full.
