When I lived in NJ a long time ago there was a scandal. We were by law forced to do recycling and my mom and I took it to the recycling place every two weeks to save money cause it was stupid expensive to live there and every penny counted. We found out that even the crap we took to the recycling place was all just dumped into a dump. Period. Not recycled because it was too expensive to recycle it. Yet we would have been fined....

That's a state law. The leasing office sends out reminders we're supposed to sort recycling and food waste from everything else, even though it all goes in the same truck and is sorted at the facility. So WM can get those deposit shekels.

I'm convinced this is just one elaborate humiliation ritual and extortion opportunity. They sort all of it at the end point anyway. We got this yellow bin for plastic shit and then one time I saw the truck dump it all in one anyway and I felt retarded for bothering to go out of my way to separate my trash. In Japan, there are some stick-in-the-ass types who take the trash sorting very seriously, to the point that they'd report you to the cops if they see you do it wrong.
