It's NOT the federal governments job to "protect the environment"

[–] 0 pt

Businesses aren't going to protect the environment and sacrifice their own profits. If the government doesn't do it, nobody will.

Wake up, Cassandra. Who do you think owns governments? 😉

Short answer: corporations. This is why protection of the environment isn't going so well.

One could argue the Obama-era interpretation of significant nexus (to a navigable water, which is what's regulated under the Clean Water Act) was ridiculous. Granted, you want to have wetlands connected to waterway habitats clean and healthy, but there's an opportunity cost to regulating them and it's a case of diminishing returns.

Can you really say it's a good idea to regulate a swamp in the middle of miles of farmland because it contributes water to a river? Even if it being pristine would amount to shit for wildlife habitat because it doesn't border any other habitat? Better to adopt a policy that nurtures riparian ecosystems and let isolated wetlands be farms (edit: because we need lots of soybeans for 's vegan lifestyle).

The regulations don't just apply to wildlife habitats - as the article says they apply to drinking water and human food sources. It's useless to regulate pollution in large tributaries then let people dump whatever toxic crap they like in streams that feed those same waterways.

The federal government plans to scale back the list of waterways for which land users are required to obtain permits to be able to pollute,

ie. Don't pollute shit, and you won't have to worry about regulations.

I don’t think OP will understand your perfect explanation. She’s a tree hugging shill paid to parrot kike subsidized fearmongering propaganda she can’t even comprehend.

Who posts scientific stuff from the Guardian?

Man, for a second I thought I summoned Aragorn and he backed me up.
