It's good for adding, multiplying and dividing up to 64 or 128 or so, which is pretty much all you need to build most things including houses and small bridges where you can get away with probably about 1/64th tolerences.
Your point is fair, but the problem is that our pricing model is in base 10 not base 12 so it's only difficult to calculate a bill because you are converting from base 10 to base 12 and then doing math. If civilization was in base 12 all pricing would be in base 12 and you could do pretty much most math at the top of your head and with the assistance of a couple of fingers.

Many businesses use a similar fiscal calendar. Problem is every 6 years you have an extra week. It does make things easier in some regards, but our current system really isn’t that hard.
