One of my aunts was going through her last round of cancer treatments during this time. (Turned out to not help, she passed pretty young but the cancer had taken root years ago and there wasn't anything that could be done...)

My mother was taking her to a regional hospital that could handle the treatments. I said "It's being reported that hospitals are just overflowing with covid patients, you're lucky you could get in." She goes no, it was empty and quiet...I think that was the first tap at the lightswitch of understanding.

During the height of the scare, I had to go to the hospital to get blood drawn, and it was a ghost town. Empty parking lot, nobody inside, etc. Meanwhile the news was saying each night that every hospital was a madhouse.

I can believe it. I live near several large hospitals. You could have had a drifting contest in the parking lots they were so empty. The convention center was converted to a triage, it spent millions and never saw a patient.

When they were saying the surge had started at the hospitals at the beginning of Covid my nephew spent a month in the hospital for a ruptured appendix. They only had 3 patients on that floor, a few on the maternity ward and the other floors were vacant, the first floor lobby was a ghost town along with the parking garages.

The surge never happened.

I knew this from early on, a friend of my missus was a senior nurse at a major metropolitan hospital. She said that the ward were all empty with nurses just walking around doing nothing.

The media pushed the line that hospitals were overflowing, but that was a blatant lie. The nurse friend still towed the official line though. The indoctrination was strong.

The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. - George Orwell, 1984

People think that line is fanciful or exaggerated. It's not. People will reject reality that is right in their face if it conflicts with their religious beliefs, and the COVID situation was for all intents and purposes a Godless religion.
