I didn't use genocide because it's ambiguous a bit since many different races/ethnic groups are getting screwed silently, also, I wanted to insist on the covert aspect of the event; genocides are usually loud and dirty, this is clean and discreet, most people think it's an accident/shit happens, they don't realize there's an intent behind this. So I settled for "mass assassination campaign" because I also believe the campaign is far from over and this is just the latest episode, just like syria is the latest episode of the middle east US military campaign

Obviously they had to cover the story, so they briefly describe what happened without any speculation; as though people suddenly collapsing is as normal as getting a phone call. Then they switch topics and give an update on what’s going on in the hearing.
