Acronis Backup Premium looks very convenient and well-integrated into Windows, but I am ready to sacrifice some convenience to evade vendor lock-in.
(Also, I am familiar with Linux command line tools anyway, so no problem.)

Clonezilla is good alternative for drive imaging software. I don't know what full features Acronis has but I have been able to restore whole Win7 systems from the backup it makes.
