Vertical farming is great for leafy greens, but is not economically sustainable yet. Plenty farms is propped up by grants from Amazon, Google, Softbank and Farm subsidies.

"Plenty’s farms grow non-GMO crops and don’t use herbicides or pesticides. They recycle all water used, even capturing the evaporated water in the air. The flagship farm in San Francisco is using 100% renewable energy too."

They'll be bought by a company like Monsanto and the division dismantled happens every single time.

Lots of hype but it seems promising. Being at the mercy of the electrical grid seems like problems waiting to happen.
