Florida State University issued an alert to students Thursday, saying an active shooter was reported in the area of the university's Student Union.
A spokesperson of Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare told NBC News that four people have been hospitalized. Details on their injuries and conditions were not provided.
An FSU Alert, the university's emergency notification and warning system, told students to seek shelter and await further instructions.
The alert said police were on the way to the scene.
