I found this pic in the OP being marked as dark humor to be quite funny, so maybe it is 'dark' humor in the literal sense in that it is humor that relates to the darkies and not 'dark' in the emotional sense.
However, some of them do get unexpectedly 'dark' for a meme. I usually find that those kind also seem to miss what I think the point of the meme is - a father being present in their child's life and showing interest to keep dialogue alive between them even if they can't relate well or don't understand what the son might be "winning" at.
Others might think it is the opposite though, that the father merely shows minimal, surface-level interest in the son, but doesn't actually care to know anything about what the son is doing and would likely become annoyed if the son began going into detail about what they're "winning" at. Yet in another version it shows the son saying yes and then inviting the father to join them in playing, to signify that the son recognizes that the father is attempting to be present and show interest and is welcoming and appreciative of this.
