I don't see how you can properly play a flight sim without a keyboard.
And I'll raise you : I don't see how you can properly play a flight sim without a joystick, dedicated thruster controls, foot pedals and touch screen with life sized console buttons.
Naturally someone will raise that and say they can't properly play their flight sim without a 1:1 scale reproduction cockpit where the windows have been replaced by monitors and it is all gyracopically synced to the simulator program.

That's my setup.
A keyboard is pretty basic though. If you want to adjust flaps, turn off parking brakes, simple things like that would be much more difficult without the extra inputs. Of course you don't have to do any of that stuff, but it isn't really a sim if you're automating those functions.
