Not at all surprising. This was thoroughly predicted by anyone who has kids and cares about them. Babies need to see faces, particularly their mothers'. And kids need to play and interact with those around them. Bottling all that up and closing off the faces of our children is far far worse than what Hitler didn't actually do to the jews.
