Although the Turks flee, the Greeks do not conquer the city, as they learn that the Governor of Thessaloniki, Mehmet Emin Pasha, also known as Abdul Empou Loumpout (aka the batter) was mobilizing 15,000 soldiers and 12 cannons to confront them. In this expeditionary corps, 600 Jews followed. They had paid the Turks for the acquisition of rights over the potential slaves and the selling of them in the slave-markets of the time.

Around 5,000 thousand families from the surrounding areas arrive in Naousa to protect themselves from the coming destruction. But the terms are unequal. Despite the month-long resistance Abdul Empou encounters and the losses his army suffers from it, he finally reaches Naoussa on 11 April 1822. The garrison of 400 fighters puts up a staunch defense, but eventually the town falls to the Ottomans on 22 April 1822. Scenes of frenzy ensue. For five days Naoussa becomes a killing field by Turks and Jews.

Other women, opting for a more honorable death chose to drown with their children by plunging into the waterfall of Arapitsa which runs into Lake Palaiopyrgos, from that time on it was renamed "Black Water" or "Black Lake". But Abdul Empou, had arranged a gift for the Sultan and a spectacle for his own amusement. So, he had his soldiers gather around 1,500 prisoners, men , women and children, in a place called “Kioski”. This is where the Jews took over and slaughtered the lot, the victims’ decapitated heads were sent to Constantinople as proof of their victory, while their bodies were left unburied, at the mercy of wild beasts and birds of prey. According to legend, so much blood soaked the earth that for the next five years grass would not grow.

Justifiably or unjustifiably, the Jews in Greece are apparently annoyed when the exploits of their ancestors against the Greeks (which are numerous) are cited. The "responsible" people of the Ministry of Education, "historians” or not, controlled or not, may do everything they can to erase the historical memory, abusing and ridiculing history, but unfortunately for them today we have the internet and so the memoirs of the protagonists and the writings of the historians of the time can be heard, genuine voices free from the bogus guilt of “Anti-Semitism”.

Here are some historical references:

Spyridon Trikoupis: "Numerous armed Jews thirsty for Christian blood followed the Turkish army as voluntary executioners. Leading the Christian survivors outside the city they bludgeoned their heads and when they fell to the ground slaughtered them like oxen." ("History of the Greek Revolution", Volume II, page 174)

Lambros Koutsonikas: "And those cowardly enemies of Christianity, the Jews of Thessaloniki eagerly and spontaneously became executioners, slaughtering the people like animals. Horror gripped the souls of those who bore witness to these atrocities, while none of their (the Jews') barbaric souls exhibited the least feeling of compassion." ("Memoirs of the fighters of 1821", volume 6, page 91)

Christos Stassinopoulos: "During the destruction of Naoussa in April 1822 by Abdul Aboud, six hundred Jews followed the bloodthirsty Turkish pasha, they constituted a body of executioners and torturers. What they did to the civilian population of this tormented city is indescribable." ("Dictionary of The Greek Revolution of 1821", Volume II, page 65, section "Jews")

Basil & Jean Nikolaidy: “As in Kassandra, the first massacre was done by the Turks in the wake of victory, but after them came the Jews who surpassed them in the atrocities they perpetrated, they slaughtered unarmed and defenseless prisoners like calves. They beat victims with bats and then they cut their throats. Not even the women were spared, they were treated as men. Some died in the flames, the Jews set fire to their clothes to emulate the Inquisition’s torment of fire (thus many Jews had died and now they took their revenge). They conceived unbelievable ways of torture. They would place a mother under the tree on which they tied and burned her child, then they would set fire to her clothes, telling her: "Come, holy martyr, go find your child near your Jesus" (“ Les Turcs et la Turquie contemporaine”, pages 285-286, 1859 edition, translation Despina Natsiou)
