First...

I seriously dislike titles like this - and it's not your fault. No, they're NOT guitar myths that I believe. I don't even "probably believe them."

Why? Because I'm pretty damned good at what I do. For them to make broad assumptions about me, or anyone else, is disrespectful and woefully unable to account for the vast variety of people who may read/see their work.

Now...

I agree with almost everything he said.

Almost...

I think people should (not that they have to, but that they should) start with an acoustic. I'm pretty sure that nobody in their right mind says that people have to start with an acoustic.

I think they should because it's easier for them to pick it up and play it. It's easier for them to take it with them. It's easier for them to practice without all the extra gear. It's less expensive for them to have a complete package that makes a quality tone.

I'll also say that a first guitar should (probably) be the best guitar that you can afford. In fact, as a general rule, I'd say every guitar you buy should be the best guitar you can afford. Best, in this case, isn't entirely objective. You may simply want a different tone. In that case, get the best guitar that you can afford that makes that tone.
