That is a Gibson Nighthawk and I'm not positive, but I think it might be the 20th Anniversary Edition. There's so many guitars that I can't be certain from the first minute of the video.

The Nightwawk came out in the 90s, lasted for something like 5 years, and was mostly a failure.

Even though it was a failure, this did not stop Gibson - who released the damned thing again in the late 00's and then did yet another release in the early 10s, as an anniversary edition. (Which is what I think that one is.)

I don't remember if it came out in 2013 or 2014, but it was one of those years.

And, again, it was not a major commercial success.

If you're using the single-coil, it's pretty much just a Fender. The humbuckers are minis, as I recall - though they probably offered who knows how many stupid versions.

Basically, they made a (mostly) pointless guitar. They made it for five years.

They realized it was pointless and that it didn't sell.

So, they took it off the market.

In the 2000s, they decided they'd release this pointless guitar - again. Again, it was not a commercial success.

So, they stopped that one - pretty much immediately.

For some fucking bizarre reason, known only to Gibson, they decided they'd celebrate their failed guitar - and make another pointless guitar, that they'd release on their 20th anniversary of their making the original shitty guitar in the first place.

It has no redeeming qualities that it excels at and can't be found in other guitars. IIRC, their single-coil had a low output.

I actually have one, but it's in a case and at/near the bottom of a stack of guitars that are also in their cases. I have it simply to own as a collector's piece. When I bought it, it was still new in the original packaging. I bought it in like 2010 and it was from like 1995. I actually bought it from a music store, where it had remained in inventory, for all those years.

I paid less than the music store initially paid for it. (Some music stores operate, some of the time, on something similar to consignment - they don't pay for the guitars until after they've sold them - sometimes and with quite a bit of variability. In this case, they'd pre-purchased the guitar.) I still have the original billing sheet. It was never sent back to the factory, so I bought it.

It's not actually a horrible guitar.

It's just not a good guitar. As in, it doesn't do anything special or that can't be done with a Fender. It shares a lot of qualities with a Fender, even though it looks like a Gibson.

I'm not sure what motivated them to release it. I'm sure as shit not sure why they released it a second time. I'm fucking baffled that they released an anniversary edition. Why, Gibson? Why?!?

Hmm...

I should turn this into an article.

Also, I'm pretty sure the guy in the video has hearing difficulties. I'm not positive, but those look like the cochlear implant thingies.

You should turn that into an article. I'm still working on writing one myself.

Yeah, I have left myself a note and a stub to get me started. At some point, there's likely to be an article (series?) of stupid choices that the guitar industry has made. And, there are plenty of stupid choices to choose from. Guitar manufacturing history is rife, lousy even, with bad decisions - often repeated long enough and frequently enough to have killed the company.

Right now, we're kind of in some golden years shit. There's plenty of guitar companies and they're mostly making playable guitars - mostly.

Historically, I suspect we have more bankrupt guitar manufacturers than we have total guitar companies today, even at this high point. I'm reasonably certain this is true if we only look at US companies that make mass market products.

Anyhow, I'm gonna hit the rack. The missus is waiting for me to head to bed.

I'm pretty sure that the consensus is that I should write more reviews - though some seem indifferent. Nobody has opined that I should not write more reviews. I've got tons of gear and tend to buy quite a bit of new stuff. So, we shall see.

Also, Musician's Friend has a 'stupid deal of the day.' It's a short lived sale, that only lasts until the item is out of stock. I highly recommend never, ever signing up for that email notification. It's just a horrible, horrible idea.

I am signed up for said deal of the day notification. It is in fact a horrible idea.

If you were an ESXi host and you could be accessed via SSH but nothing else, no vsphere no web interface, what would you try?

If you hadn't guess I'm having some trouble with my ESX host.
