Mando's are indeed very cool! The front man for one of my favorite prog Celtic bands plays a double neck electric mando.

I've been considering a mandolin recently. I play bass and most mandolins have a string arrangement the opposite of a bass(E,A,D,G<>G,D,A,E). So it would be relatively easy to pick it up.

Yeah I had a crappy violin once a long time ago. My fingers aren't even all that big, but that neck is way too damn small. I eventually smashed it into pieces and used them in a painting that bleeds rage.

It was certainly a cool instrument to see played, It looks like fretting on it would actually be easier than full size guitar.
