As a dude who plays both, I can attest to general accuracy of this post. Flamenco guitars generally have much lower action, and, in fact, there is usually too much buzz to strum a chord and hold it. This is okay, because flamenco is usually a rapid-fire flurry of notes, and it is much more percussive. When you DO strum a chord and hold it, the starting strum is usually very percussive, and the buzz gets folded into the onset of the strum, then whats still sustaining doesn't buzz because the string displacement was limited by the low action at the onset. That would sound like shit if you were playing a Bach lute suite, but it works great in flamenco. The buzz actually adds to the percussive feel of the strum.

(BTW: not actually that into flamenco, more into rumba Catalana, which is somewhat derived from flamenco.)

There's also a few more differences I probably could have covered, but I didn't - 'cause I suck like that.

Yeah, I'm a classical guitarist by training - and was able to get a couple of years of formal training for flamenco.

Sadly, throughout my career, nobody ever screamed out for anything like Für Elise. When they do, I'll be ready!

LOL! Don't hold your breath, dude.

And, yeah, there might be fine points you didn't mention, but I think you got the general idea across: flamenco guitars are built for "crispness" and attack, while classical guitars are more about sustain and proper intonation for each plucked note.

One of these days, I might write some more about tone-woods, and the variations there as well.

LOL I sometimes get requests for flamenco or classical in my weekly guitar thread on Voat. There's a few folks that enjoy them.

Alas, my career was playing pretty much everything except classical. For a while, I did quite a bit of session work and I'd try to incorporate bits of classical nuance into the recording but a requirement was often that they had to be able to mostly replicate it live and outside of the confines of the comfy studio. It's an interesting limitation to work with.

How long have you been playing?

Here's the eldest hoodlum doing rhythm and myself doing lead on Zeppelin's Communication Breakdown. Hot off the press!

LOL Gimme a few - I already have it recorded and uploaded.

Gotta get the guitar thread open - it's time.

I could technically say "almost 50 years," but to be honest, a little under 40 years. I was not at all serious at first. I wanted to be a drummer.

My 50 year date is coming right up. I got my first guitar (Yamaha GC) in 1968. I've only reluctantly set it down since, though the only reasons I really performed and did session work were income related - except for a naive point at the beginning and currently.

I was retired for most of a decade, just sitting a few gigs with friends. I spent that time 'playing for myself.' (Which I doubt I have to elaborate about, if you've been playing that long.)

Earlier this year, a friend conned me into going to do a fill-in for a band with much, much younger members. They asked me to form a band and mentor them. I told them they were right out of their fucking minds and to never talk to me again. Then I said I'd think about it.

Maybe a week later, I started laying down the ground-rules and what was once a one-year project now looks to be three years to indefinite. I've just concluded that I absolutely suck at being retired. We're strictly regional and strictly covers. We are higher-end production with things like a laser show, a projector that can handle live feeds, etc...

I've got it pretty cushy, for all the pissing and moaning I do. I don't even usually load my own guitars. I don't even help lug equipment. I do a lot of the work a manager should be doing, so that makes up for it.

I also have a firm rule. I will not spend more than one night in a hotel room. That seriously limits us to a specific region - and that's exactly what I want. My area had an empty niche, and we've filled it. Higher-end production, covers, goal being eventually renting civic centers and halls, doing our own promotional work, and the band making musicianship their sole source of income.

Which is a bit of a novella, but I figured I'd explain. I don't actually see your username very often, so I don't actually have a clue who you are. (Nothing personal, of course. I bump into a whole lot of people and smoke a lot of pot.)

What are you doing tonight, at 20:00 Eastern?

Sorry, dude, decided to alienate me from you and him. That will be all.

Well, I trust his judgement pretty completely. I'll read the thread when I have time.

For some reason your domain is blocked on the hospitals wifi. Strange

[–] 1 pt

That's bizarre. Does it give a name of the blocking appliance they use and a reason for putting it on the block list?

I do swear - a lot. That's about the only thing bad that I do. I also had a recent article where I informed people that they could suck my dick if they got their knickers in a twist over a gender-specific comment. Hmm... I think I may have also said that my observations were based on sticking my dick in a lot of women.

So, maybe I'm on it for that?

No error appliance error, just says it can’t find the url then turn WiFi off and I can get it over cellular

[–] 1 pt

Huh. Maybe they just don't like me - or they use a whitelist policy and I'm not on it?

I dunno. 'Snot much I can do about it, unless I knew what they were using - and then I could maybe contact the appliance provider, or block-list provider, and request removal or at least a reason.
