"For three weeks the war had been going on inside Germany, and all of us knew very well that if the girls were German they could be raped and then shot. This was almost a combat distinction. Had they been Polish girls or our own displaced Russian girls, they could have been chased naked around the garden and slapped on the behind—an amusement, no more."

-The Gulag Archipelago, Solzhenitsyn

Maybe I’m just misunderstanding the situation. But I’ve read all about the Jewish led mongol battalions that followed the invading forces to rape and kill everything that moved. But among all the attention (not nearly sufficient) the massacres have gotten. Why aren’t there 1000s of accounts exactly like this from the poor enslaved orthodox Christian Russian soldiers of ww2? Both sides of every military action in human history seems to have more soldiers and civilians ratting out the crimes of the soldiers. Yet the 2nd greatest mass genocide in human history seems to have produced practically nobody to confess, even decades later. I’m not saying there are none of course, and even though the red army and rest of Russia was jewish led, there’s so few of those millions of Russian soldiers to confess, it almost seems to suggests the Russian people’s conscience is anomalous. There’s no way even the extreme NKVD propaganda of being invaded by the evil Nazi’s, therefore mother Russia good, could excuse the silence around the mass crimes.

Thanks for posting the link. Answer: it's due to camaraderie. Plus understand that Red Army, and this is true certainly up to Yeltzin, viewed humans and certainly conscripts as part of a machine, a system, probably taught so by bolsheviks Their captains would command them straight into slaughter, stupidly, or deploy them knowing they would be starved. It's why casualties were so high, although it was probably closer to 9MM casualties, not 20MM..
