I'm gonna clean it and repost it soon...

Don't clean it. Coin collectors don't want cleans coins. But it's yours, so you do you. Should contain silver. Not looking it up, rn. Bowl, aluminum foil on bottom, place coin on foil, near boiling water over it, add baking soda. Chemical reaction cleans it for you, less scrubbing. Scrubbed coins are scratched up.

Already collectible, it's also worth it's weight in silver. (Look that up to confirm and how much 80%, 90%?)

I was 6 when he died. 18 when my grandfather died and 30 when my dad died. If I ever have a child they will get this coin.

Nice. Didn't you post other heirlooms before?

Just that. He was buried with his uniform and sword, honor ring. As far as I know he was an Oberfuhrer and never received an Iron Cross or Wound Badge.

That’s badass. I know they say not to clean, but in this case I’d be real tempted to. Not like you intend to sell it. Kinda like an old collectable firearm, you wouldn’t allow it to just keep deteriorating because it’s old and collectable. You’d bring it back as safely as possible to its former glory depending on stage of deterioration. A tough call with both guns and coins.

Years ago I had a ‘83 Winchester in 45-70 that I had fully restored from a poor condition though the bore was perfect. It was a tack driver at a hundred yards and looked like it was just made yesterday when done. Didn’t lose a dime on it when I sold it, in fact it sold better than one with above average condition. Just barely below one rated mint. Wish I still had it!

Lots of vids on jewtube on how to safely clean a coin. Would make a killer necklace cleaned up! I don’t know man, tough call!

I know it's old but it shows an eagle on a swastika and says Deutschland along the top and 1941 at the bottom.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen one of these. I can make out the eagle and the swastika at it's feet, can't make out the lettering around the periphery.

I should clean it but I don't want to damage it as it's 83 years old nearly.

If it hasn't been cleaned, it could have sweat residue from 1941-on still on it! I wouldn't clean it. It's a family keepsake.

It's exactly like this but 1941 and dirty and not refreshed clean wise.

Now you know what it looks like without cleaning it!
