There is an argument that they were not Jews until they were lead out of Egypt and received the ten commandments which they immediately broke and rewrote for themselves and that these events are not worth counting until they were exiled from the promised land and it starts being prophecy about them getting booted everywhere they go. I forget all the passages but Ezekiel 36 references back to them about the Jews being exiled over and over again, I think the wording used elsewhere is "chased out by sword". Ezekiel 36+ also indicates that they will be chill after they are cleansed but at that point the nations will not back off and they will continue to get tore up.
