During Napoleon's campaign in Egypt the French Army was constructing fortifications on top of some old ruins, while moving around the rubble they discovered a stone with engravings in Ancient Greek, Demotic, and Egyptian Hieroglyphics. The stone ended-up being dubbed the Rosetta Stone, and it allowed scholars to finally be able to translate Egyptian Hieroglyphics into modern languages and became a very important archeological discovery in the 1800s.
