The charges should be dropped and he should be given the right to shoot anyone on his property that is not there legally and with his consent.

I'd add exhibiting threats of bodily harm before I ever shot someone. The guy would have a pile of LDS and JWs in his front yard otherwise.

A no trespassing sign at the gate should be considered adequate warning. Once you know that you are on property that you are not wanted on and have no business being there you are breaching the social contract.
