I can remember my high school civics teacher mocking the idea of a 'melting pot' in America. To paraphrase (because it was a very long time ago) the idea of everyone becoming some sort of amorphous beige human would utterly destroy America.
The requirement for immigration to the US was that you would leave your loyalty to your former country behind, and you would consider yourself an American above all else. You would accept and become part of the existing White Christian culture and not expect it to adapt to you.
My, how the jews managed to change that.
