Tell a lie often enough and it becomes the "truth".

I have two observations. When I was a kid (pre-1980) I came across the word 'holocaust' fairly often. I was, and still am, big into sci-fi. It was a fairly common trope with movies of those days that the world would end in some nuclear holocaust. That is the only context that I ever heard the word in until 1979 when James Wood starred in a made for TV series called "Holocaust -- The Story of the Family Weiss". To my memory that was the transition point.

The other observation is that I was then, as now, a big reader of World War II history. I do recall mention of labor camps but nothing of grand distinction and certainly never heard the word holocaust used in that context.
