I think they have the timeline wrong. Generation X were teens in 80s and early 90s. The boomers were the ones taking LSD.

I am technically a Millenial but the first year assigned to them. I have two older brothers, so I tend to think of myself as being Gen X.

Things kind of get screwy and ambiguous near the edges kind of like separating music into decades. 1990's music is quite different from 1999's music. You also have an issue with albums like The Real Thing by Faith No More coming out in 1989, but I believe the song Epic really made a splash in 1990. In rare cases an album makes an impact 2 or 3 years after its release.
