To be fair rorion could have picked anybody back then, people were clueless about what graciejj and bjj were all about
After they all got their asses handed to them by it, everybody started to learn bjj
Because one simply couldn't afford to be clueless about it anymore. The one who never trained against it, facing the one who knows how to use it, loses every single time
I mean boxers, for obvious reasons, and wrestler too, because the starting position in bjj, where all the arsenal starts, is where wrestling ends. So yeah you took the guy to the ground, good job now you're on his terrain
Now the paradox with graciejj and bjj in general, less with bjj since it includes basic boxing training, but still, is that while it's the ultimate weapon in duel (given that you know your game, you aren't a noob), since you can overcome much bigger opponents pretty quickly with it, going to the ground is the last thing you should do and want to do in a combat group/against multiple opponents, because you'll get your head kicked by everybody essentially
Hence, boxing/thai boxing
Hence, chuteboxe, a mix of muaythai and bjj, best of both worlds. The philosophy in chuteboxe, is to use your bjj black belt to escape ground game as much as you can to go back stand up, you know all the exits.
But in case you have no choice, or because your adversary is better on stand up than you, then yeah you know how to go for a fatal choke a triangle for instance, or anything else par terre, you aren't a turtle on its back while on the ground, far from it
