I thought tab was a generic brand similar to dr. Pepper. I never tried it.

[–] 1 pt

Tab was made by Coke as an alternative to sugary Coke.

Wasn't this the pre-product of diet coke in order to test the market?

Tab and diet coke totally different. Tab did preceed Diet Coke but had saccharin and tasted like shit. I used to call it bog water when I was a kid. It suddenly became less popular when saccharin was said to cause bladder cancer in rats. Then they created Diet Coke. Much better flavor than Tab and didn't have saccharin. I drank Diet Coke for 40+ years.

You wouldn’t have done that if you knew what sugar substitute is used in that liquid goyslop.

My Dad was a contractor who built homes, typically had a crew of 4 or 5 back in the 1960s through early 1980s. One fellow, about my Dad's age was a naturalist. He had a lot of kids, was a very successful organic gardener with a huge garden, had a cow, a goat, chickens and an old tractor. At work he only drank tea, water or ginger ale. Great guy, funny as hell. Not exactly a finish carpenter but a hell of a framer and a good lead on a jobsite. He worked for my dad at least 15 years. The guy developed liver cancer and died around 2005. I heard he was fighting cancer and visited him a couple of months before he died. We touched upon the irony of his natural diet and he still got cancer. So sad to see him go.

Bottom line ... we are all going to die eventually and life is full of unexpected surprises. I ate and drank about anything I wanted through my youth and mid life, even now to a degree. I admit a lot of it was junk and it certainly didn't do me any favors. I'm well preserved so far, and I'm already more than 30% older than my father lived to be, older than his naturalist ex-employee lived to be. I'm not on any meds, bp is excellent, all systems still functioning very well... though some claim I've become delusional. ;-)

Another 5 years and I'll be the oldest living male in at least 3 generations on my father's side. I fully expect to get there. It will be one of the last important milestones for me.

Being a CS/EE, I loved Diet Coke or coffee most of my working career. I essentially quit drinking Diet Coke about 12 years ago when I learned more about aspartame and how diet drinks will still attack tooth enamel. I was drinking more than 2 liters a day for a decade towards the end (and 2 liter bottles were relatively cheap at $1.00 to $1.29). I still crave it at times but very seldom buy any. Coffee or milk are my go to beverages now. I might have a Coke up to a half dozen times a year now ... and they still taste delicious and refreshing to me.

"Hey listen pal, if you want a Pepsi you're going to pay for it".

Listen Biff, I don’t have time for that shit.

That's about as funny as a screen door on a battleship.

It's still Fresca in my memory.
