I've fought skeletons. They're pussies. You've got to watch the ones that shoot flaming arrows, though. They can take you by surprise.

Stop motion has an unnatural look that worked extremely well for these types of movies. It gave the creatures a level of creepiness, specially when audiences did not understand how it was achieved.

It would not work well for all purposes though. Look for the stop motion tests for the original Jurassic Park. It's also now very much dated,1981's DragonSlayer is probably as far as you can push the technology.

Don't get me wrong, I love the work of Willis O'Brien and Ray Harryhausen, but it had its time and place. You could not make a movie today with Stop Motion unless its "artsy".

It's easy to suspend disbelief while watching Jason and the Argonauts. Not so much with cgi today.
