Avatar wasn't a particular good movie. Most of the buzz when it came out was about the 3D, and not about the story.

Box office receipts don't equal a good film.

I liked the visuals of the first one, back in 2009. That was when HD was just really starting to take off, so it looked cool. The actual story and everything else was boring as fuck though.

Blue Space Niggers

An allusion to native Americans most certainly. Cameron laid all the tropes on thick in Avatar.

"Native" Americans have hair similar to people in Asia (where they migrated from).

Look at the pictures in your archived link, they have nigger hair lol.

lol... I didn't even notice how niggerish the hair is. Braids in one pick and that nasty nap in the second.

Good eye.

I was speaking more of the literary element of the movie.

The best movie I never saw.

I went. I remember thinking, wow that was overhyped as I was walking out.

I remember reading an article in one of those "bathroom reader" type books from the late 90s (maybe earaly 2000s) about how this movie probably would never be made because it was technologically overly complex. Then technology allowed us to make it.

I did try to watch it. The first part with the pure sci-fi was cool. The rest was so boring I deleted the free download from my hard drive.

The appeal of the film was the narm: awful, emotional pablum and sentimentality with oversimplified black and white morality that only applied within the narrow scope of the film universe, but promised that you, too, could have your own sultry blue space nigger to fuck if only you’d divest yourself of the real world and strap in, betraying your own for the sake of a pretty illusion.
