I worked with a guy that lived through "bussing". He was livid pissed.
We were taking a break away from other co-workers and I asked him what it was like. I have probably told this story over a dozen times.
He said it took less than 1 year for the entire area to go to shit. He could not walk to/from the bus for school anymore, too many criminal nogs. There was trash everywhere when there never was before. Everyone in the area that could afford to leave, did, quickly.
I think he said it was not even 2 years until the violent crime became so bad that even his family gave up and moved even though they didn't have money to. They begged, borrowed and did any odd-job they could to GTFO.
This took less than 3 years to turn a very White and extremely safe area into a complete fucking hellhole. Imagine how bad a place like that is now today.

Bussing in NYC started when I was in middle school. The amount of fights I got into in 8th through 12th grades is disturbing to think about.
