Thing is, if it becomes routine to give a pass for killing someone if they're a pedophile, then anyone who wants to kill someone will claim they were a pedophile. I gather some of the mexican cartels do that to lessen sympathy for their hit victims, I could absolutely see the russian mafia doing it.

Yeah, it looks pretty cut and dry alright, but slippery slope. If that kind of thing became normal and expected it would only be a matter of time before accidents happened, or scumbags started abusing it.
The guy who rescued the kids is a hero, he's going to prison because society needs to be orderly almost as much as it needs to be safe.

hey might will an appeal. get a reduction. trade another half of it for community service. end up only serving year and a half. but then maybe favors are asked and he is quietly released as to not look the justice system weak. or maybe this is all wishful thinking
