why the fuck would you use an app to unlock and start your car?

[–] 5 pts

Because that's what their owners want.

I work new build construction deficiencies for residential. Some ovens now have internet and an app, so you can preheat the oven on your way home.

Think about that for a second. You are saving either 10 mins or so of heat up time at best.

Or

You a dumbest who left uncooked food in the oven all day to fester, then burn in a preheating oven.

The scam is that everyone wants their tentacles in your phone/computer and comes up with a bs reason to encourage you to help them out with that. Some headphones won't pair to your phone unless you give them access to location services AND keep it on...

subaru started putting remote start in their cars by default, for the low price of $15 a month or so you can use their app to remotely start your car.

making your broke through subscriptions

I remember when such features were just part of the remote that came with the car and didn't have subscription charges.

Remote start that operates through the internet is a terrible idea, you're telling the app to send a command to the LTE modem in the car that then sends the command to the CANBUS, if the remote start service ever gets exploited, you can bet your ass the hackers will figure out how to send CAN commands beyond just turning the ignition on, nothing in the CANBUS protocol allows for restricting access to specific equipment.

Even if it works flawlessly, what if you lose your phone? I can see the argument for having a key and an app, if your phone is sufficiently secure (although I suppose you can lose your keys just as well), but why would you leave yourself one way to start?

A bit misleading title; only Tesla owners that relied exclusively on their app instead of bringing their key were locked out.

Not that I'm saying a Tesla is great in a grid down situation. Still I would say there is a 50/50 chance you will be able to charge your Tesla yourself more easily than finding gasoline in that scenario.

Imagine relying on your phone for that. Imagine if it got stolen or smashed. Now you can't go home. And you can't call a ride either! Idiots.

Aw you mean all the pretentious rich assholes couldn't start their toys? What a shame

Pretty sure there's an additional keycard that comes with Teslas that you can tap on the B-pillar to unlock the car, did these people not have it on them?

Exactly. Also (isrealis for example) have the tech to shut it down

LOL!

I see a market for Generac®.

Unrelated but we got a generac power washer at work and it doesn't work that great and the gun hose spontaneously burst the other day. Would not recommend.

can't start their vehicles due to a phone application. just more of Commiefornia tying your life to a permission given by them. Nothing good comes out of Commiefornia now. wouldn't be surprised if their food products aren't doused with something more addictive than sugar and Opioids . Even their porn is a bunch of broken down old used hags. Their thirst for domination will be their downfall.

THE highest tech car on the fucking planet

Lacks basic features such as the ability to refuel in a matter of seconds, so advanced.

Negative kids like yourself generally put things down they don't understand.

Exactly what doesn’t he understand? No matter how fast they make batteries except a charge a car batter pack is never going to recharge the same speed as fuelling an IC car, the power supply size required makes it impracticable.

Soon you will only be allowed to own an electric car. What could go wrong?
