Fun fact- coffee is one of the most overpowering scents on earth. It's a common drug smuggler technique to pack their drugs with coffee beans; this will even throw off the nose of a trained dog. All they can smell is the coffee, not the drugs.
I'm not suggesting that's what was going on here, just an interesting connection.

If I ever like leave the coffee pot on, forget and leave the house, when I come back the whole house smells like it. I don't notice that when it's packaged, though. Maybe if it were in sacks instead of plastic.
