Could be, but I doubt it. Have’n been involved in the re-enactment community most of my life I’ve met quite a few people who have or do live this way. One of them grew up in the Bronx. When he got out of the Marine Corp he and a buddy bought horses and rode them all the way to Oregon. He raised a family livin’ the life.

Others do it part time, being supported by going to rendezvous and selling finely crafted handmade items of the era. From beautiful beaded brain tanned clothing to exquisitely adorned flintlock rifles. This kid here is subsidizing his expenses the modern way through social media.

There’s a lot of folk livin’ on the fringe like that. Whole families even. Livin’ like Oliver Anthony says, “I ain’t got a dollar, but I don’t need a dime”.
