The best hobbies always produce something you can be proud of like wordworking or the advance in skill like in chess. It would help if I had a pricerange you were looking to spend.

Why spend a dime when you can learn to do everything from scratch? If its meaningful "time wasting" that is the best.

Even if you live in an apartment, you can plant something. Get some pots, get some soil, and plant something. It can be herbs, root vegetables, flowers, anything really. It’s fun to watch things grow. Also, get a pet. It can be a dog, a cat, a lizard, a bird, fish, or anything really lol. Something for which you are personally responsible for their continued existence. Get outside of yourself.

Young son has a collection of pet rocks, all carefully selected, named and with cheap arts/ crafts plastic googly eyes. Placed in the garden next to the front door. 'Kids these days !!'

Start wrenching on shit Get some basic tools if you don’t have some and do mechanic work start light if you have no skills and learn from YouTube. I find this kind of work while frustrating at times therapeutic. And with basic skills it becomes a way to make some extra money.

Yea, being a 70's kid, getting a model to make as a gift was just the greatest thing. My older brothers had an entire cabinet dedicated to finished models - mostly military themed. Spent hundreds of hours playing with them after putting them together, painting, putting on decals etc.

Hobby lobby has 40% off sales, which is a start. It's a good hobby, not space intrusive, no huge outlay to start, and any interest is covered. Mechanics, dinosaurs, star wars, Planes, science, armor, etc. Try spruebrothers for a look around.

Edit: Nvm you gotta drink for that shit. Do gardening im gonna try out plant breeding some things for a colder climate this summer. Otherwise i would recommend learning how to manufacture anything you want.
