The link in your screenshot is poal.co, not the direct image link like in this post.

Earlier I made a post linking to an article about the suicide of Virginia Giuffre, but I needed to include a picture of a recent Instagram post she had made to give the article context.
I put the NBC article in the link, and uploaded a screenshot of her where it says 'Upload Image'
When I posted, Poal disregarded the article link, and just posted the screen shot.
Should I just be using an imagehost to post pictures in the comments? If so, which one is good to use nowadays? I feel lost since picman left.

You don't have to. There's a built-in image upload in comments (blue icon).

Image upload (from file or clipboard) overrides the URL field.
