are you from that area?

Sorry, about 150 miles away as the crow flies - or a 9,000 hour drive. Missouri's state motto should have been:

"You can't get there from here".

Yeah, I've heard that about Missouri. I've only ever been to St Louis, so I haven't had the displeasure of driving around much. Maybe you know others who can spread the word?

Kind of dumb I have a shelter 4 miles away and they send ALL their dogs to other states. Some in vans, and even more bewildered that some are sent by plane at a cost picked up by the shelter which is maintained at a private residence by donations. County chose not to build a shelter instead opting to add on to a high school with attendance less than 150 kids and entire wings that are closed since not enough children are in town due to no jobs in this rural town. Anyway, it's a 14 hr drive for me and I'd love to have him but have less disposable income than I would like right now to be able to afford the drive. I have 18 acres and have been checking shelters for a medium size dog that might like to live on a river. Every shelter in the 2 largest cities near me that I have checked since January, only have pit bulls or wild chihuahuas in stock, sadly.

I know we never spoke before but your dog posts from X are the reason I decided to go with a shelter dog.

Edit: grammar

Most shelters transfer dogs between them. It' supposed to help balance out what types of dogs are available and it helps prevent shelters from becoming overcrowded. A lot of shelters will put an animal down if it isn't adopted within a certain time frame, so 'no-kill' shelters take them and find them homes.

I'd be curious to know if one of the shelters near you would arrange for Jorah to be brought over so you could meet him.

Glad to hear you're looking for a shelter dog, and happy that my dog posts are appreciated.

Oh wow. Did not know that. I will check tomorrow or Friday if they can do that for me. I know the lady that runs the shelter is gone on road trips to Oklahoma a lot to drop off dogs so Mo is just a short drive from her current place where she goes.

I used to assist with dog transports from shelters up and down the coast, and with shelters in TN, KY, and OH. Volunteers would take sections of the ride with a dog or two and hand them off to the next link in the chain. Some shelters charge adopters a fee for driving a dog to help recoup some of the cost. It's definitely worth asking about it.

Now that's a dog. I'd guess high energy, intelligent but lunk-headed. He'd be a great dog for any reason.
