It hasn't really. The rotary is a generator sized option for a battery. 'Hybrid'. Emissions nonsense has murdered off rotaries. Even the rx-8 limited it's power. My rotary in my rx8 is a combination of the rx8 motor and the older 13b... a kinda hybrid of it's own dumping out up to 700hp boost though I generally run around 400 on the daily. Well weekends these days. I mainly drive my truck.
