"Appearing and disappearing over a few hours" lends the slight possibility that this pulsar is in close orbit with either a second neutron star or a rather huge black hole. The way to find out is to look for "lensing" effects in the place where the object might be.

I hate to break it to you, but in 6 days it will be the beginning of February not March. While I agree that we should skip nigger month altogether, February still exists and you'll have to wait 34 days to get to March.
