Robert Becker wrote a book "the body electric" where he did this 40 years ago and described why it works.
It is electrolical potential that guides new cell growth including bone.
The large nerves along limbs are the source of it but are off set in animals which normally can't regenerate limbs. If you center them at the amputation site and give them more electrical power the field guides new limb growth.
In a species KNOWN for regenerative powers....
