That's a stupid question. Even if the first few attempts are failures there will be a lot learned, and the potential benefits of gene level control over DNA is incalculable.
With that said, this article is a lie. They did not modify or combine DNA. All they did was replace the poor quality mitocondria of the mother with a donors.
