Japanese americans call cheap people "kyuichi". Kyuichi is a combination of the numbers Kyu (9) and Ichi (1); because 9 + 1 =10. 10 in Japanese is "Ju".

Growing up in Yugoslavia we used to call stingy kids Čifut. Never knew what it meant till later , it’s Albanian word for a jew.

I know for čivut. Name for jews also used for everyone who is greedy, stingy, insidious. I'm not sure are origin Albanian. More likely Turkish or Middle East. Albania in this time was very poor... nothing for jews. In Yugoslavia they settle in big cities where they have opportunity to 'do business'.

I thought it was Turkish too due to huge influx of Turkish words over the course of 500 years occupying that part of the world but when i looked it up the word comes as Albanian ( on google). So i don’t know how accurate it is. But there was a lot of Albanians (šiptari) in those parts and there was and still is pretty decent population of jews in Bosnia especially places like Sarajevo. So i figured it stems from there.
