TIL the US FDA has a handbook of "levels of natural or unavoidable defects in foods that present no health hazards for humans" that allows, for instance, an average of 30 or more insect fragments per 100 grams and an average of 1 or more rodent hairs per 100 grams in peanut butter.

I remember reading about this in Consumer Reports back in the '70's. They still haven't fixed it?
