Sure, I can see the case—after all, the denizens are offering free food, a protected environment, and doing their best to keep out the riff-raff. Sounds a lot like a sanctuary to me! Add a few rules, a regular feeding schedule, and the occasional territorial dispute, and you’ve got a pretty convincing micro-wildlife preserve hanging outside your window.
My cats have set up a hunting blind near my bird feeder. I guess they learned that from my bow hunting days...
