Yeah I was thinking that as well. These people have probably lived much or all of their lives in this quiet little town though, they are likely trying to hold on to the home and community for sentimental reasons and fear of change.

I've never understood that. I'm more of a "go on take the money and run" type of guy. It's a big country. There are plenty of nice places to live.

For those unfamiliar with the dynamics and history of Fredericksburg, let me offer some insight. Fredericksburg was settled by Germans. Spoken German can still be heard on the streets and in the some of the shops. The strudel is so goddamn good at The Old German Bakery, that I gladly jump my carni-centric reservation to indulge. Where many a small Texas town has dried up and blown away like oh-so-many tumbleweeds, Fredericksburg is and always has been a little town that could, chiefly because of the ingrained sense of community, shared history and Teutonic acumen for success. Blud and boden is more than a catchy slogan parroted by tiki torch wielding cosplayers to the residents 'round The 'Burg. But, yeah, like many of our Texas gems, the word is out and the carpet baggers are flooding in. Damn shame.
