Sooooo, I've been thinking about this...
If covid wasn't a factor, given the amount of social distancing people are doing now, I'd expect death rates to go down somewhat, simply because people aren't passing around influenza and other disease. It implies that there is something deadlier than normal running around.
This might be partly offset by an increase in depression resulting in an increase in suicide rates, but I don't think that's risen nearly enough to explain that; it might also be offset by a lack of exercise reducing general health, but I'd expect that to be more of a long-term offset.
