It's a given that Covid, the virus, is not causing more deaths. It's not a serious virus. But I would expect the deaths to be up due to the lockdowns. However, it may be that there are countervailing influences involved that keep the numbers more or less the same -- that is, the lockdowns may cause more suicides and deaths due to domestic violence, alcohol and drugs, but they may reduce the deaths due to car crashes and other accidents, and work-related deaths (because people aren't working).

It's the common cold. They do kill the very weak.

It takes a few months for our government to completely process a death. So someone who died in December will get processed Q1 the next year. The data that came out in may shows a huge increase in deaths when comparing 2020 to 2019. This article is from November 2020

This was from November of 2020, and I remember that they subsequently retracted the study... I'm sure it was after a call from someone that threatened to cut off the money pipeline.
