Back in the 1950s and 1960s, people generally took one bath (not a shower, nobody took showers unless forced to do so) per week. Showers were considered only suitable for institutions and prisons. The rest of the days they only washed their hands and faces. The exception was for those who had jobs that required hard physical labor -- those people bathed every day, after work, or showered on the work site. Also, if you did something that got you dirty, you took a bath to get clean. But if you worked in an office, you took a bath once a week.
